Review: Revlon ColorStay Makeup Foundation for Combo/Oily Skin in Golden Beige

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

I’ve been noticing recently that all of my foundations have been too light for my skin tone. I guess I have been spending too much time in the sun this summer so I needed a new liquid foundation pronto. I wanted to try out a drugstore foundation because the only one that I still use is the Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder foundation. However, I’ve been leaning more towards liquid foundations so I decided ColorStay was the way to go. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it so I was very excited to try it out.

Revlon ColorStay Makeup Foundation for Combo/Oily Skin is said to have “Longwearing coverage with Time Release Technology and a lightweight formula that won’t cake, fade, or rub off. Specifically made for combination or oily skin to control oil absorption and shine. Your look stays flawless throughout the day.”

This foundation comes in a one-ounce glass bottle with no pump. I hate when liquid foundations come without a pump. This just leads to spending more time trying to get the product out as well as wasting excess foundation. Because this is a glass bottle, you have to be very careful not to drop it. The texture of this foundation is very thick and creamy. I was a bit worried that this might look very cakey on the face, but I found that using a damp beauty blender works best with this foundation. I have to say, this foundation is probably the easiest foundation to blend out. It seriously blends out so effortlessly and evens out my skin tone perfectly.

Even though this is medium coverage, it is very buildable. However, I like to use a light layer because I find that the less product you use, the more the foundation looks like actual skin. This doesn’t cover up my acne scars, dark circles, or all of my redness, but I like to use my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer to target those areas anyways. If you use more layers of foundation then you will be able to achieve a more flawless look, but since this is very heavy, it is quite easy to create that “caked up” look as well.

This foundation is also super long-wearing. I recently went to the Beyonce and Jay Z concert and after 10 hours and a bit of rain, this did not budge at all. This will last through rain, sweat, and tears easily! Now, even though this is targeted to those with combo/oily skin, I do find my face still getting oily after about 4 hours so I wouldn’t recommend this for controlling oil. But even though I still get oily, using oil-blotting sheets does not effect the longevity of this liquid foundation. I also don’t mind touching up with oil sheets and powder after a few hours so I didn’t find that to be too problematic.

The only big thing I dislike about this foundation is the color selection. If you have pink undertones then you will have no problem finding your perfect shade. This comes in 20 shades and I believe only about 2 or 3 of the colors are somewhat targeted towards those with yellow undertones. After lots of research, I found 300 Golden Beige to be the best match for my somewhat tanned yellow skin tone. I think if you use light layers and blend blend blend, then you won’t be able to tell that this foundation isn’t your perfect match. I usually always blend my foundation down to my neck so I didn’t find this color to be too far off from my actual skin tone. I highly recommend checking this foundation out if you are looking for a long-wearing medium coverage drugstore foundation! This also comes in a normal/dry skin formula so I recommend this for all skin types!
