Review: Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray

Urban Decay De-Slick spray

My skin tends to be oily no matter what season it is. However, during the hotter months, I feel like my skin becomes extremely oily. I have noticed that I’ve been needing to use 2 blotting sheets during the day now. I decided to try an oil-control setting spray to not only control my oily skin, but also to get rid of that powdery look I get after setting my makeup in the morning.

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray is said to be “A weightless setting spray that helps makeup stay put, controls oil, and deflects surface shine. High-tech ingredients help keep foundation, shadow, and blush from smudging, sliding, or fading—so you hardly ever need to touch up. Developed in an exclusive partnership with SKINDINÄVIA, this groundbreaking, clinically tested formula features patented Temperature Control Technology that actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to help it stay put and keep skin looking smooth, but never shiny.”

I decided to try this out in the smaller bottle to test it out. This setting spray comes in a 1 ounce bottle for $14, which I think is very pricey. The sprayer delivers a microfine mist, however, I noticed that after a couple uses, it started not to work anymore. I found that after pressing down about 10 times will finally get the sprayer to work again, but sometimes it doesn’t even work at all. It is extremely annoying when I am rushing in the morning and trying to get this setting spray to work.

The suggested usage says to shake well before use and apply both before and after foundation. You are also supposed to hold the bottle 8″ to 10″ away and spray on the face two to four times in an “X” and “T” formation. I found this product to just be a waste of money. My face was still as oily as ever even after following the directions. I also tried using this only before foundation, only after foundation, as the last step to completing my makeup, spraying on just once, spraying on quite a few times, and with/without primer. I just could not get this setting spray to work for me.

I never really have problems with my makeup sliding around or fading too much throughout the day. I just need something to help control shine and possibly get rid of the powdery residue left from setting my makeup. I do like that this does get rid of that powdery look, however, even if I just spray plain water I can achieve the same results. This can work for those with normal or dry skin, but this is an “oil-control” product so those with oily skin are not going to find this product to work. I do not recommend purchasing this setting spray.
