I decided to share with you my favorite highlighters from my makeup collection. I love highlighting my cheekbones, cupid’s bow, brow bone, and down my nose. However, I always thought that because I have very oily skin that highlighting those areas of my face would make me look extremely greasy. Now I know that no matter what your skin type is, highlighting is an absolute must! These are the highlighters that I feel work best for my skin tone.
This first highlighter is from the NARS limited edition Guy Bourdin One Night Stand Cheek Palette that came out late last year. It is called Devotee and it is so pretty! It gives off such a wonderful alabaster glow with a hint of pink. This can come across a bit frosty but blended into the skin leaves such a wonderful finish. It is not glittery at all, but instead very shimmery which makes it the perfect inner corner highlight.
My first ever highlighter was this Wet n Wild Color Icon Collection Bronzer SPF 15 in Reserve Your Cabana. Even though this is sold as a bronzer, it is most definitely a highlighter instead. This is too light and too shimmery to be a bronzer but it makes it the perfect highlighter! This is a warm-toned highlighter and gives off a soft, golden sheen which I think works great for my skin tone. I also really like the smell of this! The scent is very slight and smells fresh, almost like baby powder, but I can only smell it when I open the product. This does not leave a lingering scent on your face. Swatching this can look a bit powdery but it blends into the skin beautifully. It isn’t as shimmery as your typical highlighter, but it gives such a natural glow. Plus, you get a whopping 0.46 ounces of product for only $4!
Benefit Watt’s Up. I still have the sample that I got from Sephora last year as part of the their birthday gift program to beauty insiders. This is a cream-to-powder highlighter and is described as a “luminous champagne” color. When swatching this, it can come across a bit too shimmery but it blends into the skin effortlessly. It is also very easy to use because you put it on straight from the tube. I use my finger to blend it in and I think it is perfect to highlight the smaller areas of the face such as the brow bone and cupid’s bow. It doesn’t look cakey on the skin and instead gives off the most perfect champagne, golden sheen. This is also very long-lasting and doesn’t make me look oily at all. The full size retails for $30 for 0.33 ounces at Sephora.
My all time favorite highlighter has got to be MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle. It is described as a “gilded peach bronze” and is very warm-toned. It isn’t as frosty as Benefit Watt’s up and looks a bit more pink. I like to use a small stippling brush and place it on the top of my cheek bones and down my nose for a beautiful, soft glow. You can also dust it all over your face very lightly for an all over sheen. I think this color is so perfect for the spring and summer. It blends into the skin so easily and is very long-lasting. Even though it is warm-toned, I think this will look wonderful on all skin tones. This retails for $30 for 0.35 ounces at MAC.
